LG to launch full 3D TV line in May

LG 3D TV

The new LD 9900 Full LED 3D ready TV and BX580 3D Blu-ray player all incoming in May due to what LG says is huge interest around 3D.

LG were already ahead of the field bringing its passive 3D technology LCD TV (LD920) which is being rolled out in pubs across the country.

But now LG hope to lead the 3D revolution by bringing forward the release of its Full LED 3D Ready TV (LX9900) and 3D Blu-ray player (BX580) for the home.

Company sources told T3 that LG saw the buzz around 3D at CES2010, and decided to accelerate the development of its 3D portfolio by leapfrogging the LD920 and release the (active) LX9900 instead to consumers.

Their reckoning is the people who buy it are likely to be early adopters who want the latest technology, which is full LED, 3D, active 1080p.

The LX9900 promises better picture quality and unique single layer ultra slim Infinia design, virtually eliminating the space between the screen and the bezel.

The glasses worn by the viewer have built-in "active shutter" technology also favoured by Sony, Panasonic and Samsung. It's this tech that makes the TV active 3D as its the glasses that create the 3D picture not the screen.
Other features include built-in Freeview HD, so viewers can still watch 2D HDTV at home with five times improved picture quality without any subscription or contract.

Users can also access their favourite internet applications through the LG NetCast feature.

All this is going to cost, mind, when the TV comes out in May. The 47 inch model comes in at £2599 while the 55 inch is a whooping £3500. And very irritatingly, the glasses don't come with - you have to pay an extra £100 a pair.

But if you can afford that you'll have no issues buying the companion LG 3D Blu-ray player, the BX580.

With HDMI 1.4, it plays 3D Blu-ray movies, as well as normal Blu-ray discs and DVDs.

It also has wireless technology to access internet apps such as YouTube, weather and online photos and can stream information from your home PC or mobile directly to your living room.
